The radio bug bit me when I was 13 and was asked to read during a radio program That live show, watching the board operator with all the equipment and how smoothly everything went really amazed me. By the time I was 15, I assisted local radio announcers with on-air radio contests, record hops, and area performances by national Rock N Roll celebrities. I even ended up doing my own radio shows on weekends. At 17 I was working full-time as an announcer.
During the later part of the 1960s, I was also fortunate to be a part of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre television and radio scene and worked in television for a good number of years. Since that time, with very few exceptions, I have worked on radio stations and even done some television work.
Believe it or not, mine was the first voice heard on WEMR, GEM’s AM station in Tunkhannock when it went on the air.
It’s been years since the radio bug bit me and I feel privileged to do weekend shows on GEM 99 & 100… fill in for announcers when they are on other assignments… and morph into “Santa Hoyt” during “Christmas in Gemland”. I even get the opportunity to record local commercials for use on GEM. It’s a lot of fun and I hope folks tune in to enjoy me and all the other weekend shows on GEM. It would be great to hear from our listeners, use the form below my picture.
